The story of my most amazing closing, how I met my wife, and more.
I’ve been fortunate to be involved in over 1,000 real estate closings, but today I’ll share a story about the most amazing and rewarding closing I’ve ever had.
I got a phone call from a client who had heard of me through a Zillow ad. She said they were very interested in investing in real estate around the Charlotte area. She sent some criteria, and I was sending properties her way while she was sending some my way. I realized that we were not on the same page, so I suggested that we set up a consultation so we could better focus on what properties she wanted.
During this consultation, I realized that she wasn’t living in a home at the time. She had owned homes in the past but had been renting for the last three years. I suggested that her first investment should be a primary residence. She agreed, and we started looking at properties.
We came across one that she wanted to put an offer on, so she came into the office, and we covered the details. Before actually presenting the offer, I asked if it was okay for me to pray over this contract. She accepted, and I noticed a shift in her once I did.
We presented the offer, and it got accepted. It was never finalized because the seller had a lot of issues with a contractor and would need three more months to close. We terminated that contract and looked at more properties. We ended up finding a beautiful home that she purchased and closed on.
A week after the closing, I got a phone call from her. She wanted to do some work on the property and asked if I knew a good contractor. I went to introduce my contractor, and while I was there, got to talk with her more. I found out that she wasn’t married or seeing anyone. I was a single guy at the time too, so I asked if she’d like to go out to lunch.
We kept dating since that lunch date in 2015, and in the spring of 2016, I took her for a ride in the Blue Ridge mountains, took her to the Billy Graham Chapel, and proposed. We got married on Thanksgiving Day in the house that I helped her purchase.
I owned a home on the lake that I wanted to remodel, so I moved into her house. During the pandemic, my wife’s daughter and son-in-law were getting ready to have their second child. They decided to live with us during the pregnancy, and I created this amazing relationship with their two-year-old daughter. Little Madeline was born and stayed with us at the house.
I was able to form this incredible relationship with my granddaughters; I became Papa G. It’s amazing to reflect back on that closing and realize how it has been the most amazing closing I’ve ever had. By the way, my wife and I have worked together to purchase over 10 investment properties since we’ve been married.
I’m very fortunate to be in real estate. I love forging fantastic relationships with my clients, but I don’t think anything will top this one. If you have any questions, feel free to call or email me. I would love to hear from you.
